1.0 Different Types of Hinges in The Shape of The Use of Distinction
- Glass door Hinges
Shape characteristics:
U-shape or clip design: commonly made of stainless steel or zinc alloy with rubber gasket, fixed by clamping the edge of the glass (no need to drill holes).
Drilled hinges: holes need to be made in the glass, and the hinge with a metal shaft is inserted into the hole for fixing (e.g. “glass door cup hinge”).
Invisible hinges: partially designed to be hidden, only the pivot part is exposed.
Usage:
Suitable for frameless glass doors (e.g. shower rooms, display cabinets, cupboard glass doors).
Emphasis on aesthetics and transparency, medium load-bearing capacity (usually need to be used with tempered glass).
- Wooden cabinet door hinges
Shape characteristics:
Cup hinge (European hinge): the most common, the hinge base is a round cup, embedded in the pre-drilled holes in the cabinet door (e.g., 35mm standard aperture), and connected to the cabinet body through the arm.
Hinge type: traditional flat hinge (such as butterfly hinge), in two pieces fixed on the door and frame.
Hidden hinge: The hinge is completely hidden on the inside of the door panel and is not visible when closed.
Usage:
Designed for wooden or panel cabinet doors (e.g. closets, cabinets, bookcases).
Highly adjustable (three-dimensional adjustment: height, depth, left and right), supports different opening and closing angles (90°, 110°, 175°, etc.).
Load bearing capacity depends on the material (cold rolled steel > zinc alloy).
- Aluminum alloy cabinet door hinges
Shape characteristics:
Heavy duty hinge: thickened metal material (such as stainless steel or aluminum alloy), thick structure, dense screw holes.
External hinge: part of the design is exposed, similar to the industrial style hinge.
Hidden hinges: similar to wooden hinges, but made of lighter materials.
Usage:
Used for cabinet doors or system doors and windows with aluminum alloy frames (e.g. aluminum cabinets, balcony cabinets, commercial display cabinets).
High corrosion resistance, suitable for wet or outdoor environment.
High load-bearing capacity, but adjustability may be lower than wood-specific hinges.
